Daniel Dunaway is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Mississippi State University. Located at the Engineering on the Coast campus, he teaches on-campus and online courses. He earned his B.S. and M.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Mississippi State.

Before joining the faculty, Daniel spent more than five years in shipbuilding. As lead industrial engineer on a large-deck amphibious assault ship program, he led a team of industrial engineers, with responsibilities spanning project management, process improvement, forecasting, efficiency studies, risk analysis, and resource planning. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) through the Project Management Institute. He began teaching for the department as an adjunct instructor in 2021 and joined the faculty full time in 2023.

Teaching is Daniel's primary focus. He draws on his industry experience so students learn not only how industrial engineering tools and methods work, but when and where to apply them. That focus carries into his service: he is Engineering Education Track Chair for the 2027 IISE Annual Conference and Secretary of the American Society for Engineering Education's Industrial Engineering Division.
