Dr. Asmae Berrada is currently an associate professor of Energy at the School of Energy Engineering at the international University of Rabat (UIR), and a Vice president of the Africa Decarbonization Cluster (ADC).
She holds a PhD in Energy from USMBA. Her doctoral research was conducted at Al Akhawayn University within the framework of the EUROSUNMED project (EU-H2020 Project). She obtained a Master of Science in Sustainable Energy Management and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and Management Science from Al Akhawayn University. Dr. Berrada began her career as a research assistant and adjunct professor at Al Akhawayn University from 2014 to 2018.
Dr. Berrada has been awarded the prestigious “Emirates Energy Award”. She is a 2025 finalist for the Platts Global Energy Awards, often described as the "Oscars of Energy". She is also ranked among the World's Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University and Scopus. Her research has been further recognized with awards from institutions including MASEN, IRESEN, Al Akhawayn University (AUI), and USMBA.
Pr. Asmae Berrada has led several research projects on renewable energy, hybrid energy systems, and energy storage such as SHPS, GESYS, and DARNASOL. She has published numerous articles in prestigious international energy journals, five patents (national and international), and five books (Gravity Energy Storage (Elsevier), Hybrid energy system Models (Elsevier), Battery-Integrated Residential Energy Systems (Taylor & Francis), and Smart Grid Security and Protection (Springer Nature), Decarbonizing through Sustainable Hydrogen and its Derivatives (Elsevier).
Her main research focus is on renewable energy systems and their modeling, with active work in the area of energy storage and energy management.
